After AKPsi filled our freshman year with endless love and support, it truly felt like home. We both rushed our fall freshman year and pledging together while also being roommates brought us closer than ever. Running for Brotherhood chairs only felt right after we felt the core value shine through during our AKPsi experience so early on. After getting elected Brotherhood chairs, we knew it was our opportunity to give back to the community and contribute to the organization that helped our friendship flourish.
Working together in a position on Officer Board has been a journey, learning how to toe the line between roommates, friends, and now co-chairs. We’ve been so grateful to have the experience together, as we can lean on each other for support and pick up the slack when needed. Getting to brainstorm innovative ideas and let our creativity loose has been the highlight of our Brotherhood experience so far.
During the summer, all the feedback we received was about one thing: bring back AKFloat! We were determined to deliver this dream to the brotherhood, no matter how challenging the path there was. Organizing the float trip was definitely a learning experience for both of us. Neither of us had ever planned such a large-budget trip with so many variables involved, but the process proved to be both educational and rewarding.
As soon as we arrived for bus pickup, the energy was electric. Smiling faces donned every seat of the bus and the excitement carried on throughout the day. The brotherhood’s fun-loving spirit continued, even in the face of an unexpected hiking expedition. Getting to kick back and enjoy the beautiful day surrounded by our closest friends made everything worth it. Now, we’re looking forward to finishing our time as Brotherhood chairs and passing on this tradition to the next.
