8,000 Miles and Counting

Embarking on a study abroad adventure 8,000 miles away from Tulane brought forth a multitude of challenges. Culture shock, homesickness, and the unknown loomed large as I navigated the unfamiliar terrain of Botswana. In this daunting transition, I didn't know where to turn. But friendship emerged as the guiding force, and Nimisha became my anchor in a sea of uncertainty.

Nimisha extended a hand of friendship and guidance, bridging the gap between continents. Her insights and understanding transformed the initial struggle into a shared journey, creating a brotherhood that defied the geographical expanse. Through late-night phone calls and consistent communication discussing her transition to Tulane and her study abroad experience in Madrid, Nimisha's friendship became a constant source of comfort. As the bond strengthened, an unexpected opportunity arose—to visit Nimisha's home in Kolkata, India. It was an easy decision to explore her culture and create a new chapter in our evolving friendship. The vibrant streets of Kolkata became a new canvas for shared memories, weaving our connection deeper into the fabric of our lives. Reflecting upon our time apart, I realized physical distance seemed inconsequential in the face of our genuine connection. Through this journey from Tulane to Botswana, back to New York, and eventually to Kolkata, I know our friendship knows no bounds. It is a resilient force that will continue to transform our lives.

- Danielle Weber

I was Danielle's pledge instructor, and I only got the chance to interact with her near the end of the semester — after the process of pledging. If only we knew how similar we were and that we would become so close in what was left off as little as 15 days before we left for the summer. As time approached, we both promised each other to keep in touch while she was studying abroad in Botswana. From late-night calls to unconditional love and support, our friendship grew stronger, even if we were 8,000 miles away.

"Danielle, you should come to India with me." Little did I know, she took those words seriously and booked a ticket to my city, Kolkata. During our time together in India, from visiting the Taj Mahal and making her try spicy Indian food to my family wanting her to stay back forever, we built uncountable memories. This is the kind of brotherhood AKPsi harps upon. I genuinely thank AKPsi for helping me meet one of my closest friends.
