From Brothers to Teammates

At the end of last semester, 3 of our seniors placed “Runner-Up” in the 2024 American Marketing Association Regional Case Competition. Below, Jessie Chen, Dani Largacha Urrutia, and Sarah Silbert share their experience working as a team to create a campaign for the New Orleans-based start-up sustainable housing company GRO Enterprises.

“I’ve never had the opportunity to participate in a case competition, and I often feel like there are limited Marketing opportunities in the Freeman School of Business, so when our professor, Jeff Salyers, announced the opportunity during class, we were eager to participate. This competition was a great way to interact more with the New Orleans community, practice speaking on strategies for a real-world company, and form closer friendships with Dani and Sarah.”

- Jessie Chen (‘25)

“It was an exciting opportunity to work with a pretty amazing start-up whose product we actually believed in. We went through a lot of setbacks but it was one of those experiences that reminded me why I chose a career in business. It definitely helped that I got to work with two amazing brothers, Sarah and Jessie, who both helped bring our project to life.”

- Dani Largacha Urrutia (‘25)

“Participating in this case competition is an experience I’ll never forget. Jessie, Dani, and I are all very busy individuals with conflicting schedules, but I am so grateful that we all wanted to put in the extra effort for this competition. It was a great opportunity to apply our marketing skills to a real-world case, and it was an honor to advocate for and work with Gro Enterprise. We all worked together to make our end result possible and I think it was our teamwork that truly shined in the end.”
