“AKPsi isn’t just a fraternity or friend group to me, it’s a home.”

My first semester at Tulane was a lot like the French Quarter. On the surface, it looked incredible, but there was an artificial quality to it, sort of like hollowness. AKPsi changed my mind.

I’m not going to lie; I was overwhelmed during the rush process. Introverts characteristically find large quantities of socialization to be draining, and even hearing the word “networking” made me want to drop out in the beginning. Despite my concerns, I went for it. And I gave it my all.

Every organization says that they have a brotherhood, but Alpha Kappa Psi has more than that. My time at convention imparted on me what it truly means to be a member of this great organization.

Every brother has gone through the process you are about to begin. They took their quizzes, scheduled their interviews, and braved the damp New Orleans heat in weekly business casual attire. They’ve done it all and lived to tell the tale.

Upon my arrival in Indiana, Dan Roselli, the Dean of the Academy, told us that the Academy would change the trajectory of our lives if we let it. As I sat there, looking around the room at the 19 other Fellows, a cop, a dancer, an artist, an entrepreneur, and many more, all strangers to me at the time, I thought, “How can 4 days possibly be so impactful that they change the trajectory of my entire life?”

After joining AKPsi, campus shrunk in only the way our fraternity can do for a student. The friendships we cultivated as a pledge class and as a brotherhood spilled over into every life and I saw AKPsi in everything I did.

These fellow students I was meeting were from so many disciplines across Tulane I couldn’t believe I had written AKPsi off for being focused just on business. I had conversations ranging from the relationship of environmental activism and business hierarchies to talking about a Scuba Cat themed parade float.
