My college transition was difficult. When I was in high school, being a student-athlete meant that there were many people looking over you wherever you go: teachers, counselors, coaches, and even the security guards. In college, everything is on your own, and I was not used to that at all. Luckily, I was able to connect with a couple of brothers before the week of recruitment, and I was quickly attracted by the professionalism and the enthusiasm from the brothers. Everyone is eager to meet the new students, and everyone is willing to give out their best advice for transitioning to college. There is always something that is impressive about each brother because everyone in AKPsi is versatile and unique in their own ways -- it is truly an honor to be in this organization.
Before coming to Tulane, I was never aware of the Greek Life system in American Universities. I am a young immigrant who came to the U.S. when I was 13, and I never had the chance to learn about fraternities or sororities. Alpha Kappa Psi is not a typical Greek organization that many people first learn about. AKPsi is the premier Business Fraternity in the country, and it even has international chapters. What I love about AKPsi is that we are coed, and we accept brothers from all majors -- you do not have to be a Business major to become a part of the family. Because of that, I am able to meet with so many other friends that I previously did not have the chance to meet.
AKPsi is where my home is on campus. Because of this organization, I was quickly involved on campus in various ways. I have great mentors who keep pushing me to a better career-driven goal, and I have peers who remind me to be vigilant and optimistic every day. I am lucky to be in AKPsi, and I cannot wait to see where this fraternity can lead me in the future.
